We’re Focused on What Matters Most Right Now in Southeastern Wisconsin

At the Junior League of Milwaukee we live in the moment. To us, that means adjusting our focus according to our community’s most pressing needs. Our work is always evolving, and that keeps us on our toes, striving for progress, and preparing to take on whatever comes next.

Our current community goal of providing meaningful solutions to the challenges facing our community–including targeted work in five Impact Areas: Ending Gender-Based Violence, Improving Health Outcomes and Disparities, Eradicating Poverty and Food Insecurity, Closing the Gender Gap, and Advancing Childhood Education. can be achieved by volunteer action, community collaboration, and training.. So far we have supported at-risk women and children in ways that went beyond donations of money or gifts–rather, focused on personally meaningful connections for JLM Members and participants. For example, we established the JLM as a resource in the rapid rehousing market within Milwaukee–while educating the community about the connection between housing instability and domestic violence. The JLM is continuously researching new opportunities to expand on our community impact and to train new leaders.

Our goal is to help Milwaukee women develop civic leadership skills through the work they do, then put those talents to work in the communities that need it. Our current focus of support vulnerable women and children within our community in following areas: Ending Gender-Based Violence, Improving Health Outcomes and Disparities, Eradicating Poverty and Food Insecurity, Closing the Gender Gap, and Advancing Childhood Education gives women opportunities to grow, while positively impacting the communities where they live and work.

No matter what we’re currently focusing on, the Junior League of Milwaukee’s work centers around improving our local communities through effective action and leadership. We have identified supporting vulnerable women and children within our community in following areas: Ending Gender-Based Violence, Improving Health Outcomes and Disparities, Eradicating Poverty and Food Insecurity, Closing the Gender Gap, Advancing Childhood Education as the most pressing issue in our community right now, and we are helping local women take action to resolve it. So far this year, we have supported events such as: Family Unity Night with Big Brothers Big Sisters and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, Winter Wonderland for Families in Transitional Housing and Domestic Violence Shelters, Milwaukee Diaper Mission Volunteer Day, Annual Community Blood Drive for Versiti Blood Center (founded by the JLM in 1947!) and so much more! We believe that these impactful actions have the power to bring us closer to our goal of serving the vulnerable population of Milwaukee.
